Wizard Gourmet 2016
Red Rooster, Marcus Samuelsson Group
Tristen Epps is a visionary chef with a keen eye for avant-garde dishes. His passion for global cuisine began at a young age inspired by his Trinidadian roots. He has dedicated most of his life to traveling the world, fostering his pursuit of culinary innovation and paying homage to global classics. Since late 2014, Tristen has served as a Sous Chef at the renowned Red Rooster restaurant and as a Chef de Cuisine at Streetbird Rotisserie in Harlem, NY - two of the Marcus Samuelsson Group's landmark restaurants. Marcus was first introduced to Tristen's gastronomic expertise during season 3 of ABC's "The Taste" as a finalist where Samuelsson served as a judge and later as Epp's mentor. As a transplanted Houstonian, Tristen quickly settled into the vibe and flavors of this diverse city and is excited to return with new experiences gained from New York.
Tristen received his bachelors degree from Johnson and Wales University in 2009. Upon graduation, he participated in The Greenbrier's three-year Culinary Apprenticeship Program under the certified Master Chef and Bocuse d'Or participant, Richard Rosendale. Tristen has also been a member of the American Culinary Federation (ACF) since 2007. He competed in several ACF competitions, placing over seven times which included three 1st place wins.
Tristen is no stranger to Wine & Food Week. While serving as the Chef de Partie at Quattro, Houston's own restaurant in the Four Seasons Hotel, Tristen competed in the Wine Rendezvous Grand Tasting & Chef Showcase in 2014.
