Open just over a year, Grampy Larry’s Lakehouse Restaurant & Pub in Willis has a faithful following and is fast becoming one of the most popular dining destinations on Lake Conroe. The privately owned restaurant occupies the entire second floor of the building located at 12947 Lake Conroe Hills Dr. off of FM 1097 and is easily accessible by both land and water with a boat dock in back.

Vikki LeBeau and Jeff Cantara, opened Grampy Larry’s last June, a short time after the pair moved their family from Hawaii. Le-Beau is originally from Oregon and lived in California prior to moving to Maui, which she called home for 14 years. As a result, all aspects of the restaurant are influenced by a variety of regions and cultures.

Grampy Larry’s offers a unique mixture of seafood, Tex-Mex, home-style and deli-style dishes, along with a wide assortment of sides and beverages ranging from basic non-alcoholic selections to traditional and original bar drinks. Some of Grampy’s popular appetizers are the ever-popular peel and eat garlic shrimp, bacon wrapped stuffed jalapenos, spicy hot artichoke dip and fried calamari steak (no tentacles at Grampy’s).

From its hardwood floors and eclectic décor to the large outdoor dining area overlooking Lake Conroe, Grampy Larry’s has a casual, relaxed atmosphere and is a comfortable fit for just about anyone. The second floor restaurant even has a working elevator for those unable to climb stairs. The rustic cedar bar is a one-of-a-kind handmade in Huntsville for the restaurant and compliments the hardwood floor. Large vents over the bar keep the cigarette smoke isolated, which is a plus for non-smokers like LeBeau.

Alcoholic beverages include Island Oasis Margaritas in flavors such as Mango and Wild on the menu. “Grinder” is the Bostonian name for what Texans call a “po boy” or a “hoagie.” Grampy’s “Grinders” include a choice of prime rib; Philly cheese steak; bacon chicken ranch; hopped up chicken (with melted cheddar and jalapenos); fried shrimp; and grilled or fried Mahi Mahi, catfish or chicken.
