Shirley Harrington is Senior Food Editor for Southern Living, the seventh largest monthly consumer magazine in the U.S.

As an editor, Shirley plans monthly magazine content, creates and produces stories and special magazine sections, develops and edits recipes, guides story photography, and writes content. She also creates and produces content for Southern Living special interest publications such as Christmas At Home, Southern Living: Best of 2010, Weddings, Easy Entertaining, and Great Food for Busy Cooks. Her passion is to teach and inspire Southerners to cook and entertain family and friends easily - and have fun doing it!

In addition to writing, Shirley's career has consistently included demonstrating recipes, party ideas, and tabletop décor before live audiences and on television throughout the South. Currently, she appears in a Southern Living videos called "What's for Supper" and in seasonal videos such as "Top 5 Thanksgiving Side Dishes."

Shirley joined the foods editorial staff in January 2002 after 17 years with Southern Living advertising. She served as Assistant Director of the Southern Living Cooking Schools and onstage presenter promoting major food and cooking products such as Pillsbury, California Avocados, and Weber Grills across the South. Prior to that position, Shirley was Design Director and founding member of the Southern Living and Dillard's Home Design Seminars featuring such products as Waterford, Lenox, Krups, and Lexington Furniture.

She's a hush puppy-loving Floridian who headed west to Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas to earn a degree in foods, nutrition, and education - and gain a passion for Lone Star state barbecue! In her Birmingham, Alabama neighborhood, she's known for hosting impromptu tasting parties on her front porch of magazine recipes or simple Southern indulgences such as tomato sandwiches.
