Wine and Food Week 2008 Welcomes Pete Kusiw
Juniper

Pete KusiwPete Kusiw, Juniper

Chef Pete Kusiw began cooking in his parent's kitchen at the age of thirteen. He received his Culinary Arts degree from Johnson & Wales University and at twenty-three, became the youngest Chef at Trump Plaza.

His love for French cuisine brought him to Bechac's Restaurant in Mandeville, where he refined his progressive creole style of cooking. From there he became chef at English Turn Country Club in New Orleans, and Money Hill Country Club in Abita Springs.

In 1996 he purchased Java Grotto and in 2003, opened Juniper, both on the Mandeville Lakefront. They enjoyed great success until they were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Juniper's new home is in a beautifully restored 100 year old building at 301 Lafitte Street. With cypress floors, quaint, intimate seating and white tablecloths; Juniper captures the feel of a New Orleans cottage.

Juniper is an award winning restaurant. In 2007, Juniper received a four star rating from Thomas Fitzmorris, a local New Orleans food critic. In 2006 Chef Pete was voted Best Chef on the Northshore by Sophisticated Woman Magazine, and Juniper was also rated as having the best service on the Northshore by the same magazine in 2007.
