Chef, Benjy's

David Coffman was born and raised in Dallas, Texas; as a child David had always shown an interest in cooking, always by his mothers side in the kitchen. By the age of 18 David was already working in professional kitchens, starting his career in the culinary world. After a few years of working his way around Dallas, David packed up and moved to Colorado.

There he worked at several high end resorts and got his first taste of fine dining. From there David focused on learning as much as he could from his chefs' and honed his culinary skills. Working in Colorado allowed David to gain a lot of experience working with wild game and exotic animals; all in all Colorado changed David's whole perspective on his culinary career. At this point David really started to grow into the chef that he is today.

After 4 years in Colorado David moved to South Carolina to explore yet another type of cuisine. There he worked at various restaurants and broadened his horizons. In 2006, trying to make a 'home' for himself, David packed up once again and came to the next big food city, Houston. Here David has really come into his own, here he has been able to execute many of the different techniques that is has learned throughout his career in other states.

David first started his Houston career working at Voice with Chef Michael Kramer, then went on to work briefly at Bedford, next was learning from Chef Randy Rucker at Rainbow Lodge; finally he found a home at Benjy's. David has been with Benjy's for over a year now and has really blossomed as a Chef, Benjy's has allowed David to find his cooking style and work with great chefs (I.e. Dillon Murphy, Mike Potowski, ect.) .

With Benjy's at his back David will surly rise to be one of Houston's greatest chefs and help put Houston on the culinary map.
